Rubber Meets the Road:
Here’s how to get your culture moving in the same direction as your strategy:
1. Audit the Culture Before You Announce the Change
Ask what actually gets rewarded and tolerated today. That tells you what your new strategy is up against.
2. Bring the Informal Leaders in Early
Every team has people others quietly follow, regardless of title. Get them on board before the announcement, not after.
3. Model It Before You Ask For It
If you want the culture to shift, your own behavior has to move first. People watch what you do, not what you say.
4. Reward the Behavior You Actually Want
If the new strategy says one thing and your recognition and consequences still favor the old way, the old way wins.
5. Expect a Gap, and Plan for It
Strategy can change overnight. Culture takes longer. Build in the time and repetition it needs instead of expecting an announcement to do the work.
