Ep 6: What Savannah Taught Me with Jerry Captain

Stories of Hope: Action Steps

  1. Look for the Gift Hidden Inside the Hard Thing
    • Jerry did not set out to find purpose in caring for Savannah.
      • He set out to love her. And purpose found him.
    • Whatever hard thing you are facing right now—ask yourself honestly: “What could this be giving me that nothing easier ever could?”
      • You may not be able to answer that today. But stay open to the answer finding you.
  2. Do Not Let Other People’s Fear Become Your Decision
    • The people who told Jerry to run were not bad people.
      • They were scared people.
      • Scared of hard things.
      • Scared of loss.
      • Scared of a road without guarantees.
    • Do not let someone else’s fear write the next chapter of your life.
      • Only you know what you were made for.
  3. Find the Moments of Pure Joy and Protect Them
    • The music.
    • The football.
    • The truck rides.
    • The laugh.
    • In the middle of the hardest seasons— these moments are not small. They are the whole point.
      • Find yours. Name them. And protect them like the sacred things they are.
  4. Choose Someone the World Has Underestimated
    • It does not have to be dramatic. It does not have to look like Jerry’s story. But look around your life for the person- the child, the friend, the family member— who needs someone to believe in them more than they need anything else.
      • And be that person.
      • You will not just change their life. You will change yours.
