Ep 2: The Loneliest Room in the Building with Jerry Captain

Stories of Hope: Action Steps

  1. Audit Your Inner Circle
    • Take an honest look at the people around you.
      • Who in your life actually knows what you are carrying right now?
        • If the answer is no one—that is not something to be proud of. That is something to change.
    • Write down one name. One person who has earned the right to know the real you. That is where you start.
  2. Say the Hard Thing to One Person This Week
    • Not everything. Just one true thing you have been keeping to yourself.
    • A fear. A struggle. A moment you are not proud of.
    • You do not have to perform it or package it.
    • Just say it out loud to someone safe.
    • Watch what happens when you do.
  3. Stop Waiting to Be Asked
    • Most men wait for someone to notice they are struggling.
    • Nobody is coming to rescue you from your silence.
    • Reach out first. Text a friend. Call your pastor. Book a counselor.
    • Asking for help is not weakness. It is the bravest thing a strong man can do.
  4. Find Your People
    • If you don’t have a community—build one or find one.
      • A men’s group at your church.
      • A counselor or therapist who specializes in men.
      • An online community of men walking through similar seasons.
      • Even one other dad, one other caregiver, one other man who gets it.
