Ep 1: When Life Breaks You Open with Jerry Captain

Stories of Hope: Action Steps

  1. Name What Happened—Out Loud
    • Not to perform it. Not to wallow in it. But because healing cannot begin in a place that has no name.
    • Write down—or say aloud to someone you trust—one thing from your past that you have never fully acknowledged.
    • You don’t have to fix it today. Just name it.
  2. Find One Safe Person
    • Jerry didn’t heal in isolation. No one does.
    • Think of one person in your life—a friend, a pastor, a counselor, a spouse—who has earned the right to hear part of your story.
    • You don’t have to share everything. Start with one sentence.
    • Safety is built one honest moment at a time.
  3. Separate Your History from Your Identity
    • What happened to you is real. But it is not who you are.
    • Write this down and put it somewhere you will see it:
      • “I am not what was done to me. I am what I choose to do next.”
  4. Take One Step Toward Healing Today
    • Not a giant leap. One step.
      • Call a counselor and make an appointment.
      • Download a journal app and write one honest paragraph.
      • Reach out to one person you have been keeping your story from.
      • Pray one raw, unfiltered, honest prayer.
    • Momentum is built with one step, then another, then another.
    • You are not too broken to begin.
